TECHNOLOGY:

DWR: Patagonia's proprietary durable water-repellent fabric finish, Deluge® DWR, lasts substantially longer than standard DWR. Clothing with the Deluge DWR finish retain their like-new water-repellent qualities even after many years of extensive use.

COMPOSITION:

Recycled Polyester: PATAGONIA recycles soda bottles, factory fabric scraps and used clothing to make polyester clothing. Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a source of raw materials. It curbs discards, thereby prolonging landfill life and reducing toxic emissions from incinerators.

RECYCLED NYLON: Nylon is more difficult to recycle than polyester. After years of research, development, and testing, Patagonia are finally finding some recycled nylon fibres that are suitable for clothing and are an pass rigorous manufacturing and product quality tests.

Some of the recycled nylon we use comes from post-industrial waste fibre, yarn collected from a spinning factory, and waste from the weaving mills that can be processed into reusable nylon fibre.

For Patagonia, incorporating as much recycled nylon as possible reduces dependence on petroleum as a raw material source. It helps reduce waste, which prevents landfill and helps reduce toxic emissions generated by incinerators. It helps promote new recycling streams for nylon products that are no longer usable. Using recycled nylon also causes less air, water, and soil contamination compared to using non-recycled nylon.

Ripstop: This synthetic fabric, often made from nylon or polyester, uses a special reinforcing technique that makes it tear and abrasion-resistant. During the weaving process, reinforcement threads are interwoven at regular intervals into the hatched pattern. These intervals are generally 5 to 8 millimetres. Ripstop fabric is thin and lightweight with thicker threads interwoven into thinner cloth for a 3-dimensional structure.

CERTIFICATION:

Bluesign® Standard: Environmental program to eliminate substances that are potentially hazardous to human health or the environment from the textile supply chain. A Bluesign® approved fabric ensures that:

  • The fabric itself is free of harmful chemicals
  • Unsafe emissions in water, ground and air are reduced
  • The use of energy resources is controlled and reduced to a minimum
  • The working conditions are healthy and safe
